S-Series Specifications Support

MDDV Enterprise Edition supports the ASD/AIA S-Series suite - S1000D, S2000M, S3000L, S4000P, S5000F, and S6000T - as one connected ecosystem, not isolated standards.

What are the S-Series specifications?

The S-Series Integrated Product Support (IPS) specifications form a globally recognized, interoperable framework for product support and through-life engineering. They are maintained as a joint international initiative by the S-Series IPS and S1000D Councils - with industry and DoD/MoD members from AIA (Aerospace Industries Association) and ASD (Aerospace, Security and Defence Industries Association of Europe). The suite lets an enterprise digitally connect engineering, logistics, maintenance, supply chain, and training across the full asset lifecycle.

Implemented as a unified ecosystem - not isolated standards - the S-Series delivers data continuity, operational efficiency, and lifecycle cost reduction. Engineering design feeds S3000L analysis, which drives S4000P maintenance planning and S2000M provisioning; S1000D publishes the execution content in Interactive Electronic Technical Manuals (IETMs); S6000T derives training from those tasks; and S5000F feeds operational data back into engineering. The result is a closed loop where real-world performance continuously improves design and support.

The six core specifications

The suite is anchored by SX000i, the international specification for IPS itself; these six specifications put it into practice. The official home of the specifications is s-series.org.

S1000D

Technical Publications

The authoritative source for operational and maintenance content - modular XML data modules with reuse, configuration control, and multi-format IETM/IETP publishing.

S2000M

Material Management

Governs provisioning, spares cataloging, and supply-chain data exchange across the program lifecycle.

S3000L

Logistic Support Analysis

The analytical backbone linking engineering design to support strategy - producing maintenance tasks and support bills of materials (BOMs).

S4000P

Preventive Maintenance

Converts analysis into executable, reliability-centered and condition-based maintenance programs.

S5000F

In-Service Data Feedback

Captures operational and field data to close the loop between operations and engineering.

S6000T

Training Analysis & Design

Aligns training needs analysis and curriculum with actual operational and maintenance demands.

Common questions about the S-Series

What are the S-Series specifications?

The S-Series is a suite of interoperable specifications for Integrated Product Support (IPS), maintained as a joint international initiative by the S-Series IPS and S1000D Councils with members from AIA (Aerospace Industries Association) and ASD (Aerospace, Security and Defence Industries Association of Europe). SX000i is the umbrella IPS specification; alongside it the suite covers technical publications (S1000D), material management (S2000M), logistic support analysis (S3000L), preventive maintenance (S4000P), in-service data feedback (S5000F), and training analysis and design (S6000T).

Which S-Series specifications does MDDV support?

MDDV Enterprise Edition provides integrated support across the suite: S1000D (all issues, including 6.0) with full synergy with S2000M and S3000L, plus S4000P, S5000F, and S6000T support delivered with induction, consulting, training, and customization.

Do the other S-Series specifications replace S1000D?

No. S1000D remains the technical-publications specification within the suite. The others connect to it: S3000L analysis defines maintenance tasks, S2000M covers provisioning, S4000P defines preventive maintenance programs, S6000T derives training, and S5000F feeds in-service data back - with S1000D publishing the executable content.
